During the first week of school we spend a lot of time getting to know our students. We use a variety of activities and games to build relationships and gain information. But what about the important stuff-- the little things we need to know to help a child succeed? The things that sometimes take a few weeks or months to learn and don’t show up on a report card or an assessment? This questionnaire is to help with that. Questions that will help you understand your students’ backgrounds (Have they traveled much? Have they changed schools a lot? Do they live with extended family? Do they speak more than one language?) If we are better informed, we can do a better job of meeting the needs of all our kids.
This worksheet is double-sided with 18 targeted questions to get to know your students better.
