This is a back-to-school matching/memory game for your students to practice naming things in your classroom and reading the words associated with them. The product includes two sets of cards at different levels, each featuring 18 common classroom tools or school supplies -- I use them for differentiated instruction, but they could also be used as two separate literacy centers.
I have included two sets of cards to meet the needs of different learners. The cards with blue borders show both the word and the picture on the same card. The cards with red borders show the words and pictures on separate cards.
To play a matching/memory game, print either a double copy of the blue cards or a single copy of the red cards. Laminate for durability.
The blue cards can also be used for an alphabetizing literacy center.
Shuffle cards and place face down in rows. Players take turns flipping over two cards at a time and reading the words out loud. If the words match (or the word and picture match), the player keeps the pair. If they do not match, the cards are flipped back over and the next player takes a turn. The player with the most matches at the end of the game wins.
Two different recording sheets are included: one for writing the correct vocabulary word next to each picture, and one for alphabetizing the vocabulary words.
Vocabulary words featured: backpack, blocks, book, chair, chart, clock, colored pencils, computer, crayons, glue, lunchbox, marker, paint, paper, pencil, scissors, table, and tape.
