This is the perfect activity for students in Grades 2 and 3 to work on during the first days of school. It is a meaningful activity that keeps students busy and engaged, while providing you an opportunity to establish your routines and procedures for independent work.
While students are working on the booklet, you have an opportunity to roam the room and have those quiet chats with students where you can give positive feedback and begin to develop your rapport with your kids. Plus, you know they are so excited to use their new markers and pencil crayons; this is a great way to let them do so, while still completing a purposeful task!
I have also included a page where as a class, you'll brainstorm a list of vocabulary words students might use in their responses in the booklet. This gives you another opportunity to present your expectations for how, as a class, you'll create anchor charts and other useful resources. As that first week progresses, I have my students return to this booklet when they have finished other work. Then, on "Meet the Teacher Night", we leave them on our desks for parents to look through. It's a great resource that I've used for years. They also look adorable up on a bulletin board for all to see!
I've also created an almost identical product but with a different clip-art theme. You can check it out here: Sailing Back to School/All About Me
The preview file shows all of the items included in this product.
I hope your students enjoy this as much as I have enjoyed creating it!
