This year I will be teaching writing to my whole upper elementary school, which contains 3rd, 4th, & 5th grade. I will see all 9 classes for 30 min. each day. Our first day of school is always on a Friday, and I love doing a back to school ice breaker activity with the kids.
This back to school ice breaker is very simple. It is called "Mystery Student." The students will be filling out this questionnaire, and they can also color it. At the very bottom, they will write their name, and then fold it so no one can see their name. The teacher can pick these up when finished & read them out loud, so they students can guess which paper belongs to which student. The students find out new things about their classmates. You could also post them on the wall. My students will be putting them in the front, clear part of their writing binders.
