This activity is perfect for the first week of school. It allows you to learn about your students and vice versa and at the same time gives you a glimpse at students’ writing skills. The “Teacher’s Letter” is an editable resource, so you can personalize the letter, but at the same it is laid out for you with my answers. For example, my favourite food is “pyrogies”, but you can write your own answer. All the things you should change to yours are underlined. I included also a couple of pictures of myself and my pet that you can add to yours, or you can have no pictures.
How to start: Print the “Teacher’s Letter” and sheets for replying to your letter (there are colourful and B/W options for both sheets). Turn on some relaxing music, and let students read your letter and write back to you!
Differentiation: The sheets for replying to your letter have 2 options:
1- blank sheet with the starter “Good morning_____!” for your high flyers (in case you already know your students)
2- sheet with sentence starters. This will help students with special needs, ELL students, or you might decide to give to all your students the sentence starters sheets.
