This interactive read aloud lesson is designed to be used with La LLorona-The Weeping Woman as told by Joe Hayes (This book comes with text written in Spanish and English). The lesson focuses on the comprehension strategies of utilizing background knowledge and asking questions and is designed to be utilized over several days.
The book/text is not included here and currently sells on Amazon for approximately $7.
In this lesson, the teacher will “think aloud,” modeling his/her own thinking before, during, and after reading, while engaging students with the text. There are discussion points throughout the text. Students are asked to cite text evidence to support their answers.
A graphic organizer used to record how the main character changes throughout the text is included. In addition, a generic copy of the graphic organizer is included so it can be utilized with any text.
Teacher think alouds, discussion points, challenging vocabulary, high level questions, and student engagement tips are formatted in a template that the teacher may choose to print on post-its and place directly in the book for easy reference during reading.
Great for ESOL/ELL students!
