This is the background research project for The Odyssey. This takes about one-two weeks to complete on a block schedule depending the level of student and how well acquainted they are with research.
How Unit unfolds:
There is a page that explains the following in a little more detail in the packet, but it's pretty straight forward.
Page 1: List of god/goddess, mythical beings, and Greek Culture aspects that are present in The Odyssey. Each student is assigned one from each column. Some will repeat.
Page 2: a list of websites for the students to use.
Page 3: A list of questions to guide them in their supporting details so they will know what to research about their specific topics.
Page 4: The next page is a “How to Do a Works Cited Page” with internet sources and print sources.
Page 5 & 6:A blank outline for them to write their information. I check this before they write their paper.
Page 7: Shows them the format of a research paper and how to use the information from their outline in the paper. It also explains how to do in-text citations. I do not require them to use direct quotes in this paper. They paraphrase.
Page 8: Gives an example body paragraph with in-text citations. It also has a Works Cited example as well.
Page 9: Grading Rubric
9-10.W. 2 a-f, 4, 5, 7
