The Witch of Blackbird Pond is a terrific novel that contrasts cultures, religions, and political views. The protagonist, Kit Tyler, was raised by her grandfather in Barbados. As a part of the British Empire, the official religion was the Church of England. When she was orphaned at the age of 16, she moved to her aunt's home in a Puritan community in Connecticut.
To get the most from this book, students need to have a good grasp of the religions and settings. This project offers tools for the students to research material and develop presentations to be given before the class.
