Backwards Speech is an engaging matching game for targeting later developing speech sounds:
How to play Backwards Speech:
There are two sets of cards for each sound - a "Forward-Card" set where the words are written normally and a "Backward-Card" set where the words are written backwards. There are 30 cards per sound- 15 "forward" sentences and 15 corresponding "backward" sentences.
You lay the forward-cards face up on the table and put the backward-cards in a stack. The student draws a backwards-card and holds it up to a mirror (or the iPad front camera!) to read the sentence. The student practices his/her speech sound as they read the sentence out loud. Once the student has figured out what the backwards-card says, he has 10 seconds to find the matching forward-card! If he finds it quickly he gets to keep the cards. If not, the card goes at the bottom of the stack and it is the next player's turn.
This game is ideal for older elementary or middle school students working on articulation objectives. No childish clipart - just lots of fun and LOTS of articulation practice!
To best enjoy this product:
Students should be able to read on a 2nd grade level or above
Students should have access to a therapy mirror or forward-facing iPad camera (to read the backwards-cards)
