Bacteria Concept Map
This activity requires students to create a concept map around the word “Bacteria”. Students will match descriptions and definitions to words and group words into sections on their maps. This is a great activity to use when reviewing for a test. Students can do this as an individual assignment or in pairs or groups. They can make their maps on a single piece of paper or draw it on chart paper with markers. Maps can be posted in the room or used as a Word Wall. You can even have students present their maps to the class.
The words given include everything from the Kingdoms of bacteria to their shapes, Gram stain testing, and Oxygen requirements. It asks them to differentiate between autotrophic and heterotrophic strains and Acid and Alcohol fermenters.
This activity covers a lot of information about bacteria while providing an opportunity for cooperative learning. An example of a map has been provided as an answer key but some students may have them organized a little differently.
