Bacteria – unicellular prokaryote cell
Bacillus – rod shaped cell
Coccus – sphere shaped cell
Spirillum – spiral or corkscrew cell
Binary Fission – 1 cell replicates its DNA and divides in half, producing 2 identical cells
Conjugation – 2 prokaryote cells exchange DNA
Endospore – a thick wall encloses bacterial DNA to wait until better times to reproduce
Virus – nonliving particle made up of nucleic acid in a protein coat; needs host cell to reproduce
Capsid – outer protein coat of a virus
Bacteriophage – virus that infects bacteria
Prophage – viral DNA embedded in the host cell’s DNA
Retrovirus – virus that contains RNA instead of DNA
