On the side of a yogurt container, it says "live and active cultures". What are these cultures? Bacteria! Help your students to see how good bacteria are in the foods that we eat everyday.
Students will use a plain, white yogurt along with the dye methylene blue to view the bacteria in the yogurt.
Skills taught in this lab include - proper microscope techniques, creating a slide with a material that is not transparent, dyeing cells, and more!
I use this lab with all of my biology students, both honors and regular. They love the challenge, and they are always surprised to see all of the tiny bacteria cells hidden inside of the yogurt!
FYI ---- This lab also works great with crystal violet stain!
