Product Description
A good way to review reported speech for ESL, EFL or ELA students. Activate their previous knowledge of backshifting and pronoun shifting when reporting speech. Also highlights the role of paraphrasing and rewording when reporting speech.

Students compare a joke told directly to a joke reported and note grammatical differences as well as differences in the nature of the joke.

The lesson could be extended with a discussion of how humor works or how the reported or speech can influence the meaning of what he or she is reporting.
