Recently, I read the book Mindset The New Psychology of Success by Carol S. Dweck, Ph.D. Anyway, I realized I was guilty of some of what it spoke about. So I needed to make changes quickly! Before the new year! But how? My question was how can I truly encourage effort, improvement, strategies, and help my students to develop an open mindset and a love for learning.
I developed badges. Badges that celebrated all those things I discussed and more!
You will celebrate improvements in academic areas, homework, behavior, classwork, even attitudes and effort...
You will celebrate reaching goals, thinking outside the box, using great questioning, problem solving, going above and beyond,
You will celebrate so many things, I am certain your students will be looking for new badges to create!
Why badges? Well, kids like to collect things... these badges are collectable! I thought where will my students put them....
Maybe on the wall under their names, maybe they glue them to a folder, or they create a badge book (like old time sticker books).
The whole point of this is to celebrate! Have fun! And lets get this generation EXCITED about learning!
This material is copy righted so please just use it in your classroom! I would love to hear how your students responded to this idea and how you displayed their badges......
and yes it is ok if a students get the same badge one then one time!
If you want to tag me with pictures on instagram I would love to see them in action! jrfox99
