This FREE Badminton unit includes:

Day 1: Care of equipment, rules, grip, clear shot, drop shot, smash, rally play, and "Peer Grading Sheet"

Day 2: Rules, demo game, game play

Day 3: Specialty shots (High Serve, Low Serve, Backhand Serve, Drive Serve,

Flick Serve), King’s Court games

Day 4: King’s Court games

Day 5: Unit test study guide, tournament play

Day 6 - 10: For Weeks 2, and 3, each day warm up with a demonstration/video of a skill and then drill before game play. Starting on Week 2, continue the “skill and drill” to begin class but switch from game play to a “Round Robin Tournament.”

Here are the skills suggested:

-Day 6: Drive-A powerfully hit forehand or backhand stroke, which just clears the net. It is a difficult shot to return because the shuttle’s trajectory is a straight line.

-Day 7: Clear-The clear is a strike, which sends the shuttle high over the opponent’s head and drops near the backcourt boundary line. It may be hit with an overhead or underhand stroke and may be used for offensive or defensive.

-Day 8: Smash-The stroke is a hard hit overhead stroke with a fast downward path. It is a chief attacking stroke.

-Day 9: Drop Shot-The shot is one in which the shuttle is stroked over the net so it drops very close to the net.

-Day 10: Optional Unit Test, and Long Serve-Use a long back swing to sent the bird into opponent’s back court but within serving area.

-Basic Strokes

-Short Serve-Use a deceptive stroke with a flat arc so the bird skims the net

and drops into the court near the service line (preferably in the corners).

Day 11 - 15: If you have 3 weeks for your unit, continue to “skill and drill” each day at the beginning of class, and move onto the “Elimination Tournament” for the last week.

-Day 11: Forehand-For right handed players, a stroke hit when the shuttle is on the right side of the body.

-Backhand-For right handed players, a stroke hit when the shuttle is on the left side of the body.

-BACKHAND STROKE: The Most Powerful & Accurate Backhand Stroke Ever (4:00 min.)

-How to QUICKLY Return Shots at the Net (5:00 min.)

★NEWLY ADDED!!!★: QR Coded Posters, where students can bring their cell phones to class and can access and watch the video before they try the skill!
