This is a FREE project I adapted for 5th grade as an end of unit project after we studied matter and its changes. Students get to power a car using the chemical reaction between baking soda and vinegar. This works with NGSS standards and hits engineering standards as well!
The great thing about this project is except for the basic idea, students can have free reign to practice trial and error, what works and doesn't work.
Included is the student packet I used, along with some teacher notes and instructions and some pictures of how it worked in my class.
The students had a great time with this project. It was definitely a highlight of the semester. Hope yours enjoy it too! Come check back as I add more ES/MS resources!
Check out my store for other resources to help your students learn about properties and changes in matter!
