This student checklist allows students to keep track of work required weekly (can be altered as needed). It allows the teacher to conduct whole group lessons and then to give to students to keep track of what needs to get done during independent working time, while teacher is involved in small groups and/or one-on-one instruction. It assists in differentiating the curriculum. There is a page 2 (see Independent student activities checklist p 2), which involves independent activities students can complete once the required balanced literacy, reading, writing, and L.A. art activities are completed. Classroom/student organization is the key to allow students to facilitate completion of their own work in their own time, in the order that works best for their learning style. In the classroom, I copy page 1 and page 2 back-to-back and facilitate while students fill in each area on Mondays, to help organize the week's work for all.
