Looking for a way to help your students differentiate between balanced and unbalanced forces that includes calculations using Newton's 2nd Law? This sort activity allows student groups to think and discuss various definitions, examples, diagrams, etc. to determine if each card represents a balanced or unbalanced force.
Then once all cards have been sorted, students can move on to calculate the net force in each example. This resource includes student pages to help guide the calculations. This is a thorough review of the conceptual aspects and calculations related to TEKS 8.6A and 6.8B. These activities give students ownership of the content necessary to be successful on Grade 8 Science STAAR.
