Product Description
PowerPoint and accompanying notes to introduce the topic of balancing a chemical equation. Includes the topics of chemical reactions, reactants vs. products, law of conservation of matter, subscripts vs. coefficients, a description of what different molecules look like (i.e. how 2H is different than H2), and a step-by-step guide on how to balance an equation. There are also opportunities for students to practice built in to the PowerPoint and Notes. This purchase includes a PPT file and a PDF file. Please note, neither file is editable. In my opinion, this product could be used to support the teaching of Next Generation Science Standard MS-PS1-5** when used in conjunction with other materials. To be clear - this is not a comprehensive guide to the standard but I believe it could be used to start students on the path to mastering it. The standard states:
"Develop and use a model to describe how the total number of atoms does not change in a chemical reaction and thus mass is conserved. "
