Balancing equations can be a bit tricky when students aren't used to solving BOTH sides of the equation. This resource can help! Students practice solving both sides of an equation to identify whether or not the equation is balanced.

There are 2 versions of the recording sheet to choose from. In one version, students record whether the equation is true or false. In the other, they use the = or not equal symbol & correct the incorrect equations!

This resource is a life-saver for busy teachers who would like an easy, engaging activity for balancing equations! All materials are provided and printable!

Directions:
Students place the equation cards face down in a pile. They take turns choosing an equation card and all members of the group record the equation on their recording sheets. Everybody works together to solve both sides of the equation as needed to identify whether the equation is balanced or not. There are 2 versions of the recording sheet to choose from. In one version, students record whether the equation is true or false. In the other, they use the = or = symbol & correct the incorrect equations!
