This Common Core aligned lesson focuses on main idea, rhyme scheme, irony, and author's purpose in the "Ballad of Birmingham". The comprehensive packet guides students through the key ideas and structure of the ballad using graphic organizers, sentence frames, and text-based questioning. Ultimately, the students determine the author's purpose based on use of irony and rhyme scheme. Due to copyright constraints, the "Ballad of Birmingham" text is not included.
