After learning about Newton's Laws, students build a car from recycled household materials that is powered by a balloon attached to a straw. After racing, they complete the reflection to think about the physics concepts regarding motion that affected their design and race results. My typical point breakdown for this assignment is as follows:
25 points for bringing in materials
100 points for having a complete car built according to specifications
25 points for the car moving
50 points for a completed, thoughtful reflection
