The premise is that a group of important figures are riding in a hot air balloon and all but one must be thrown out before the hot air balloon crashes. Students are assigned one Google Slide to complete about an important person. Students then have to make persuasive speeches, ask and answer questions, and conduct research in order to convince their classmates to save their person and vote for the other people to be thrown overboard before the fictional hot air balloon crashes. You could adapt this to be about book characters, historical figures, etc.
Based off the strategy presented in A History Teaching Toolbox: Practical Classroom Strategies by Russel Tarr. Hope you enjoy.
