Product Description

A fun hands-on activity with a STEM component that addresses the science topics of rockets, thrust and forces. This resource not only covers the force that causes the balloon to move (thrust), but also the force that cause the balloon to stop (friction).

This is a perfect cooperative group activity as it takes more than one set of hands working together to set up the string apparatus and attach the balloon. Students also practice their measuring skills as they measure the distance traveled and/or time.

There are six different described variations for this activity, including three with a STEM component. Each variation has its own result table. There is also a cut and paste vocabulary list with definitions for student to insert into their notebooks for studying purposes.

Graphic notes are provided which focus on the forces of thrust and friction. Students who finish early can work on the provided matching worksheet which could also be used as a homework assignment or as an assessment. Answer Key included.

3, 2, 1, get ready to blastoff in this active hands-on activity!

All physical science resources are aligned with NGSS.
