Description

In this lab students will build balloon rockets and discover the relationship between the size of the balloon and the distance traveled. They will relate this to Newton's 3rd law- action/reaction forces. In the second part of the lab they will change the mass of the rocket and discover how it affects the distance traveled.

Materials needed: yarn or string, balloon, tape, straw, washers or pennies.

Two versions are included:

1. Guided version- Procedures are provided for students. Great for middle school.

2. Inquiry version- Students are given the guided question and have to come up with their own experimental procedures and summarize their findings in a CER chart.

Both versions are fully editable.
