Got a sweet tooth? Need an ice cream break? How about composing a speech and/or rhythm piece all about a Banana Split? This multi-level composition activity (designed for small groups or individual students) follows my Banana Split Beats Build-a-Song project, but can also stand alone as it’s own activity or center. This activity includes:
*Multiple manipulative image sets at different levels to fit your students’ rhythmic reading needs. All images are available in color and B/W and include the following:
--Ice Cream and Topping images only
--Ice Cream and Topping images labeled with syllabic names
--Two-beat patterns in stick notation for younger students for ta, ti-ti, and rest
--One-beat patterns in stick notation for older students for tika-tika, tika-ti, ti-tika, ti-ti, ta, and rests
--rest images for one and two-beat pattern sets
*Color and B/W Banana Split Template to help create composition. Can be used as a take-home or display project as well.
*Sample Banana Split composition. Can be projected for student viewing.
