Bar and Circle Graph Mini Project
Texas TEKs 6.12C, 6.12D, 6.12H
A fun way to actively engage students in learning.
Students can be assigned to work individually or in small groups.
Each individual / group randomly selects a project card and follows the directions to complete tally charts, bar graphs, and circle graphs. In most cases students will use rulers to draw their own charts and graphs. However, a prepared worksheet has been provided as a modification for struggling students. I recommend having students put their finished projects on construction paper.
note: The in class mini project cards require that the students survey 20 people. The extra credit project cards have students surveying 100 people.
Once students have correctly completed their graphs they should be given stretch cards that require analysis of the data.
Level 1: Students to convert the raw data to fractions and percent.
Level 2: Students analyze the data to find the mean, median, mode and range.
At each level, students are also expected to create accurate and inaccurate statements about the data.
