Cupcake Bar and Picture Graph Matching is a engaging, yummy math station that I created to help students read and analyze picture graphs and bar graphs. Students complete 3 piece puzzles where they match-up corresponding picture graphs to bar graphs. The final piece of the puzzle is a fact about the corresponding graphs. Once students have completed a puzzle they can check their understanding by flipping the puzzle over. If the picture of a cupcake on the back matches with all the same color the student(s) know they are correct.
To extend students understanding, I also created a worksheet that can be completed after matching all 4 puzzles. The questions on the worksheet include "How many more" and "How many less" questions.
I created this activity with the 3rd grade Common Core State Standards in mind.
