Are you looking for a fun way to teach & review bar graphing? Look no further! This Jeopardy-inspired math game show is the perfect resource for your classroom! Students can compete in teams to earn points by answering questions about bar graphs. The game is available as a Microsoft PowerPoint (.ppt) file and as a PDF.

What's Included in this Resource?

  • 25 total engaging questions about bar graphing
  • 5 fun categories:
    • Parts of a Graph - Students will answer questions to identify the various parts of a bar graph, including the title, axis labels, categories, bars, and scale.
    • Making a Graph - Students will answer questions about creating bar graphs, including picking a title and more!
    • Data Analysis - Students will examine bar graphs to draw conclusions about the data.
    • Word Problems - Students will solve one-step addition/subtraction problems using bar graphs.
    • 2-Step Problems - Students will solve two-step addition/subtraction problems using bar graphs.
  • 6 unique bar graphs
  • Student Recording Sheet to keep students on-task and focused, with answer key included.
  • A total of 51 PowerPoint slides with hyperlinks!
  • A PDF Version of the game show, which is useful if you do not have access to PowerPoint.

HOW TO USE:

  1. Split your class into teams. You can have anywhere from 2-5 teams. Decide what order the teams will go in.
  2. Have Team 1 pick a category and point value, ex: "Data Analysis 200".
  3. Click on that point value to be taken to the question screen. You may have to press "CTRL + click" depending on your computer.
  4. Read the question out loud and give students time to answer, and write their responses on the recording sheet. Other teams can steal the points if the team that picked the category answers incorrectly.
  5. Click the "ANSWER" text to see the correct answer. Award teams with points as applicable.
  6. Click the "back" arrow in the top left corner to be taken back to the main game show screen at any time.
  7. Repeat the steps above until all questions have been used!
  8. You may choose to take this activity as a grade by scoring students' responses on the recording sheet.
  9. Enjoy!!

I can demonstrate mastery and understanding of bar graphing and data analysis.

Very cute and easy to use! These questions used all of the vocabulary words for word problems we have been practicing. Great problems to solve and very visually appealing!

Solve one- and two-step “how many more” and “how many less” problems using information presented in scaled bar graphs. For example, draw a bar graph in which each square in the bar graph might represent 5 pets.
