A Quick Description
Have second grade students pretend they are donut shop owners for a day. Students complete 10 bar graph and pictograph challenges. Print out all 10 posters and all 10 aligned challenges. Distribute them around your room. Give each child a recording sheet. Explain to students that they will become business owners and will need to complete all challenges. They have to find all the challenges you've left around the classroom and find the answers to each one. They use the recording sheet to mark off each challenge as they go.
How to Play
Step 1: Tell your 2nd grade class that they are donut shop owners today and will practice with bar graphs and pictographs. Students solve math challenges set up around the room. They can be completed in any order and you can choose how many challenges students complete or what time frame they have to meet YOUR needs.
Set-up is quick and easy. Simply print the 10 posters, the math worksheets, and a recording sheet for each student. Place them around your room and you’re ready to begin! Additional door décor, editable name tags, editable admission tickets, and themed banner are included if you want to use them!
Step 2: Let students move around the room and solve each challenge! Each time students solve a math challenge, they go to the teacher to get it checked. Students can work independently, in partners, or groups. Your choice!
Step 3: When students finish all ten challenges (or however many you assign), they win! You can give them the certificate of completion included. I also reward my students with a donut at the end.
Step 4: Most of the time, there are early or fast finishers! These kiddos get to go around the room and scan the QR codes provided! Each QR code leads to a fun fact about donuts that they can record on the sheet provided or a piece of notebook paper. This keeps everyone happy and on task!
