Addition and Subtraction Challenging Task Cards (Bar Modeling Suggested)
Practicing difficult word problems with addition and subtraction is fun with these task cards! Use the task cards as a math center or whole class activity such as Scoot or Roam the Room.
Included are 12 task cards and an answer sheet with a QR code that students can scan to take them directly to the answer sheet. The answer sheet is in my writing because I found it was the easiest way to show my students how to use bar modeling, or drawing a picture, to solve the problems.

Ideas for how to use these task cards:
•Roam the Room- cut out the cards and display them around the room for students to find and solve. My students love this version because it gets them moving!
•Scoot- put one card on each student’s desk. Then students “scoot” to the next desk to solve another problem when the teacher gives a signal.
•Early Finishers/Math Center- cards can be displayed around the room like in Roam the Room or in a folder/envelope or you could even make a bulletin board with the cards posted
•Partner work- students could solve a set amount of problems collaboratively.
•For small group instruction- specific cards could be printed or displayed with a projector for students to solve on whiteboards or in math journals
•Around the World problem cards
• Whole class or small group Math Jeopardy questions
