This lesson provides real world practice for students to apply decimal operations (CCSS 6.NS.B.3). Students will complete four stations using provided advertisements for main dishes, side items, drinks, and supplies. At each station, students will make decisions on items based on a given budget and calculate the subtotals using standard algorithms for decimal operations. In my class, each station took approximately ten minutes. At the conclusion of the lesson, students will take their work for the four stations and apply it to their homework. The homework is provided and requires students to add all four subtotals, calculate the tax, determine the final cost, and provide a justification for their choices.
