PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

There have been many controversies over the body type of Barbie, and if she would be able to survive as a real person. I often introduce this project by reading an article on the Barbie controversy. Then, using the attached worksheet I have students work with tape measures to find their own dimensions and use proportional reasoning to scale their own dimensions down to Barbies height. These new dimensions serve as a comparison for a proportionately built doll. As an extension, if students finish early, they can measure an actual Barbie doll to compare their dimensions.
