This product is to support a lesson on single by double and triple digit multiplication using base-10 blocks (4.NBT.1 and 4.NBT.5). The SMART board file includes a focus question, objective, vocabulary, an array example connected to base-10 blocks, and many examples to use for modeling, guided practice, independent work, and extras used for extension or review (total: 14 questions, 24 slides). One problem is already completed for you in the SMART board file as an example.
Base-10 manipulatives are embedded into each problem slide for you and most importantly students to show how to solve the problem.
The packet includes independent work questions to be used by the students at their desks. Students would use base-10 blocks first to solve using the included manipulative map. Then, they would draw the setup in the packet. Two word problems with a writing to explain are also included along with a worksheet students can use to connect the array strategy with the base-10 block strategy on their own. This allows students to consciously relate both strategies which will help them develop each concept further.
The packet is available in two different forms. One is similar to the manipulative map where the bracket is blank. The other includes a grid so students can line up each part of the multiplication process. This is helpful for students who have trouble with visualization.
An answer key is included for the packet and the worksheet that connects the two strategies.
The amount of problems in this product can last you up to 1-4 days depending on how many problems you use each day!!
