This is a wonderful research based lesson that can easily be modified to fit your needs and the needs of your students.
This lesson will require you to place 26 Baseball Research Task Signs around your classroom (included). These research tasks require students to research baseball concepts, players, teams, and/or ideas from "A - Z." Students should have a wireless device in order to conduct their research. I would ask my students to place their research in a Writer's Notebook, but I have included note collecting pages in this packet as well.
Once the research in complete, students will use the information that they have gathered during the research tasks to write an expository essay. Students must select a text structure by which they will follow and a clear topic and controlling idea for their essay. There is a baseball themed essay form in this packet or you could require students to type and submit their essay. Expository essay rubric is included.
This is a fun engaging lesson! It will be especially appealing for the baseball lovers in your class and fits great into a baseball themed unit or for the kickoff of baseball season or to celebrate the World Series!
