I have combined my love of baseball and economics into this engaging research project. Students will research a Major League Baseball Stadium. I have included a list of the ones I like to do with my class. These were chosen based on history, location, and special amenities offered at the stadiums.
You could use this activity to just teach ELA standards, but I have a personal love for teaching economics. So, I extended the teaching to consider why prices are so different at different stadiums, why businesses advertise, and the many ways MLB teams convince us to spend our money. It was an easy and engaging way to incorporate real life lessons. I am including these extensions in the form of discussion questions.
