This is a fun activity that utilizes construction paper baseball mitts and baseballs to transport skill practices home with students and encourage parent involvement. (The balls will slide into the inside of the glove.) Parents are impressed with the innovative approach, and students enjoy having an entertaining way to practice weekly skills.
The teacher and an aide or parents prepare materials ahead of time. All materials needed and thorough directions for this are clearly specified. Patterns are provided. Students lace up pre-made baseball gloves, cut out baseballs, then write words or facts to master on each baseball. These are tucked inside the glove.Students take the glove and balls home for study, and return them to school on a specified day. Gloves can be used again each week with new baseballs that they cut out at their desks. Spelling words, vocabulary, and math facts work especially well. Students love this creative approach to skills practice, and are motivated to practice.
