What educators are saying

This is a great unit to introduce financial statements, the accounting equation and refresh spreadsheet skills.
Best purchase I have ever made. Kids loved it. We actually left another programs to use this for a week.

Make Accounting FUN and SIMPLE!!! Yes, it CAN be done!

This classroom-tested Accounting Unit is designed to cover 1 to 2 weeks, and is meant as a basic overview of accounting. In my curriculum, I am required to teach a small portion of this along with many other business sections, so I created this unit for my 8th & 9th graders. I tried to make it simple and fun! It covers:

The Accounting Equation (Assets=Liabilities+Equity)

The Balance Sheet

Income Statement

Personal Budget

The attached zip file includes a full unit: A day to day PowerPoint for the teacher, an Excel file the students open an fill out, which is also self-grading, art files for the Liabilities and Asset cards that are used in the Balance Sheet Game, a review sheet, and the test with and A and B verison, with an answer key. There are also study helps for Socrative, Gimkit, and a review sheet. There is a link to the lecture video--which is great for students who are absent and need to catch up. This video has a table of contents which allows students to skip directly to the sections they need. There is also a short video that explains how to play the Balance Sheet Game.

The Balance Sheet Game has two decks of cards--one with Liabilities and one with Assets. On the board, you draw a balance sheet, and the students take turns drawing a card and writing up how that item would be listed on a balance sheet. Then they do it themselves using the sheet in their Excel sheet. It's a great way to assess whether they are really getting the concept or not.

I have updated this as of April, 2022 to include a second version of the answer sheet, which is a bit more rigorous and will result in a deeper understanding for students. Another video for that version is included, and it comes with both a Google and Excel version. Both the simple and more complex answer sheet versions are included.
