An introductory lesson to create basic formulas in Excel. Lesson is designed to cover 2-4 days of 1.5 hour class periods. The lesson walks students through the basic math functions of addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, AVERAGE, and AUTO SUM. In addition, the lesson is built around salary and careers. In the final project, the students will create a 12 month budget template where they will estimate monthly spending based on a given salary. The teacher may supply the career and salary information or the teacher may allow the students to research a career and locate the introductory level yearly salaries themselves. Activities may be individually assigned or in groups. The lesson can be extended by allowing the students to create their own uses for the excel formulas! If you have a willing group, this could be a wonderful learning time. TEACHERBT creates relevant and real life lessons.
