BASIC GEOGRAPHY: WORLD & UNITED STATES
One of the greatest weaknesses my students’ have is understanding the importance of geography and the large role it has played throughout history. Many of my students are unable to identify and label the most basic geographic concepts; oceans, continents and/or the 50 states of America. This activity can be modeled by the teacher, guided in small groups, or completed independently with proper resources; i.e. textbooks, classroom maps, etc…
OBJECTIVE: Students will be able to identify and label the world oceans, continents, and 50 states of America by recording the name and location in a list and then on a map.
PRE/POST-ASSESSMENT: Create small groups and allow students to attempt the activity without any references. Students will be able to see what prior knowledge they bring to the lesson and allows the teacher to differentiate areas of need. Map and list templates can be used as a post assessment quiz as well.
A great resource to laminate or place in a sheet protector for year round reference!
