We need to begin providing comprehension questions as early as first grade for students to locate and answer independently. This activity provides students with short paragraphs with a follow-up question for the students to answer. Picture support has been taken away and they are on their own to comprehend and determine the appropriate answer.
The reading level for these small stories are Guided Reading Levels G-H, Reading Recovery levels 12-13, or basal primer level. I require my students to use a dry erase marker to justify their answers. This is a great test taking skill they will untimately use when confronted with standardized tests in third grade.
