Basic sight words are essential to reading and key to setting up the foundations of literacy. When students are learning sight words they need to do more than just learn them by rote memory. The following puzzles provide students a chance to read sentences that contain basic sight words and link the sentence to a picture to show they comprehend what they have read.
Print and laminate each set of puzzles for long term use. Cut up puzzles ready for use. The puzzles are divided into 6 sets- starting with easier and most frequent sight words in Set 1 and moving up to harder and less frequent sight words in Set 6. Each set of puzzles is labelled so they can be kept as a set or mixed up- either way pack up and sorting is made easier!
The sight words that are focused on in each set are listed below. The key sight word/s in each sentence are underlined to make it easy to assess how well a student reads the target words. There are 120 sentences included- 20 puzzles for each set!
