The topic of heat transfer is important enough to be its own subfield within thermodynamics with several texts written specifically on the subject. As we learned in previous chapters, heat only transfers from an object of high temperature to one of lower temperature but the method of this transport varies.
In this fourth chapter, we will study the 3 major forms of heat transfer: convection, radiation, and conduction. We will then give examples of how these mechanisms work for several different geometries. We will conclude by touching on the important topic of black bodies which is a model that helps us understand everything from a hot metal rod to the stars themselves.
