Have you ever taught a concept and wanted an engaging, real-world activity to go with it? If so, Basketball build is a great way for you to bring project based learning into your classroom. This activity has students making calculations to build a basketball court in their neighborhood. Since they have been given approval to build, students need to price out contractors. Students will be multiplying whole numbers and decimals in this activity. Students will also need to calculate area and volume. Included is an extension for early finishers. I had students work with partners and check with each other before moving on to the next step. This could also be used in small group or whole group. Provide students with graph paper and have students draw and design their courts for fun!
