This is a great classroom management tool that maximizes learning time in the classroom and improves students' organization skills. Each students gets one handout and keeps it in his or her binder throughout the quarter. If s/he forgets something in his or her locker or needs to use the restroom, s/he can leave the classroom (with teacher permission) up to six times in a quarter. The teacher should cross off a square on the handout each time s/he leaves the classroom. If students leave the classroom more than six times, they are required to stay after school as a consequence. At the end of the quarter, students can enter any remaining squares into a raffle for small prizes. Ever since I started using these bathroom and hallway squares, students have left my classroom much less frequently.
