Have an issue with kids ALWAYS asking to go to the bathroom or sick of the SAME kids going every time? These passes have taken my classroom management to the next level.
Using these passes has helped make my kids accountable for their bathroom breaks. They feel involved in the process because they get to choose when they go.
I give each student 2/semester, the first week of each semester. If they lose them or forget them at home, they aren't allowed to leave the room. Holding onto them all semester earns them +5 on their final exam, a small price to pay as a teacher for keeping a kid in class all semester.
Consistency is key, but you'll find that it's quite easy to enforce after the first two weeks or so.
"Can I go to the bathroom?"
"Can I have one of your bathroom passes?"
They'll think twice before losing the opportunity of +5 on a final exam.
Modify as you see fit! Maybe do 1 pass per unit, and add points on a unit test, if you have younger kids, whatever your heart desires!
Preparation Needed: Make the pass specific to your classroom.
Materials: I usually print them on cardstock, makes them a bit more durable. Make sure you change color cardstock each semester, or kids WILL try to reuse them!
