Young children and students with special needs greatly benefit from picture guides for proper bathroom use. All individuals greatly benefit from picture guides. This packet includes printable poster for the steps required to use the toilet, steps required for washing hands, two different social stories for students with bathroom concerns, a sign to remind students to pull up their pants in the bathroom and, my favorite, a guide that an adult can tape on the wall to show the students how much toilet paper or paper toilet should be used. The printable signs for proper hand washing and toilet use can also be used for sequencing activities for individual student work.
Additional visuals include large and small cards that sequence the necessary steps for changing in the restroom. The visuals include how to change your feminine hygiene pad (a favorite for teachers and parents of girls in puberty!), changing your pull-up, changing your diaper, changing your underwear, putting on your diaper, putting on your pull-up, putting on your underwear, getting dressed (boy and girl versions), getting undressed (boy and girl versions) and showering (boy and girl versions). The “changing,” “putting on,” and “showering” cards each come in a full page print out and laminate (ideally) to post in the bathroom or a smaller 3”*4” sized card (one set with tabs and one without tabs) that could be kept in a pocket, a changing back, a folder, etc. The “getting dressed/undressed” pages can be cut out and glue into one long strip to be posted in the restroom. I also like to use these activities for independent sequencing work for life skills. All of these items are very effective for ALL students under the age of 8 and those who respond well to visuals, including students with autism.
See what happy customers have to say:
