This primary classroom resource contains a variety of activities to accompany your nonfiction unit on bats. It's perfect for students in grade 1, grade 2, and grade 3 and includes:

This can be a fun unit to do around Halloween; however, the activities and clip art are not holiday themed. They can be used anytime of year or with students who do not celebrate.

*CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.1.2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they name a topic, supply some facts about the topic, and provide some sense of closure.

*CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RI.2.9: Compare and contrast the most important points presented by two texts on the same topic.
*CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.1: Write opinion pieces in which they introduce the topic or book they are writing about, state an opinion, supply reasons that support the opinion, use linking words (e.g.,because, and, also) to connect opinion and reasons, and provide a concluding statement or section.
*CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.2: Write informative/explanatory texts in which they introduce a topic, use facts and definitions to develop points, and provide a concluding statement or section.
*CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.W.2.8: Recall information from experiences or gather information from provided sources to answer a question.
