Finding nonfiction texts at an appropriate level for kindergarten guided reading groups is a difficult (and often expensive!!) task. With the increased expectation of kindergarteners reading nonfiction texts based on the Common Core Standards, it is crucial that teachers have access to leveled nonfiction books that their students can read (and want to read!!) With that thought in mind, I have created this book (and will be creating many more!!)

This book is written at an approximate level C. Many sight words are used to support early readers as they begin to read nonfiction text.The complete text of the book is included below, so you can see if it will meet the needs of your students.

Title Page: Bats
Page 2: Look at the bat. Bats can be black or brown.
Page 3: Bats are mammals, just like people are.
Page 4: Mother bats take care of their baby bats.
Page 5: Bats are the only mammals that can fly.
Page 6: Bats use echolocation to find their food.
Page 7:Some bats eat fruit. Some bats eat bugs and fish.
Page 8: Bats help us by eating lots of bugs!
Page 9: Bats are nocturnal. They sleep during the day and stay awake at night.
Page 10: Bats sleep in caves. They like to hang upside-down when they sleep!

This book includes the same text on both the top and bottom of each sheet of paper to make copying, sorting, stapling, and cutting easy to create a class set of little books!!
