Need something a little spooky but not really Halloween? Want kids to see that Reading IS fun? "Bats at the Library" can meet your needs!
Have you ever used a complex book study unit that “sucked the fun” out of an awesome book? This free unit simply includes 4 worksheets. You can pick the one (or more) that will meet your kids needs while still enjoying the book.
(1) A brainstorm sheet to use before reading the book. Encourage kids to think about what would happen if bats visited the library at your school or in your town.
(2) Verbs and Adjectives Lists. The book is stuffed full of fun words. Introduce (or review) verbs and adjectives as you read the book.
(3) Creative writing. The bats do things that would get kids in trouble. Let the kids imagine what they would do in the library with a friend.
(4) Questions - Almost a scavenger hunt to explore the library and the book.
Several of these could be discussed whole group... or filled out on a document reader so the class could all participate. Adaptable and fun! An easy activity for Halloween/Bat fun.
